Answer to THE DINING PARTY:

The total cost came to $178.  The cost of the meals was,

A
lbacore tuna $14
Beef stroganoff $12
Curried crab claws $16
Deep sea salmon $18
Egg foo yong $10

If no one had ordered the single dish of egg foo yong, there would have been  three each of the other four meals ordered. (No one ordered the same two meals as another, and no one ordered two of the same meal.)
The only possible combination of orders would have been
diner    #1    #2    #3    #4    #5    #6
order   AB   AC   AD   BC   BD   CD
The same number of seafood dishes (A, C, D) was ordered ..... ie,  three each.
That would have left three orders of dish B to make up the 12 orders (6 diners x 2 dishes each).
But there was one E ordered so someone preferred it to a B.
3 x A @  $14 each = $42
2 x B @  $12 each = $24
3 x C @  $16 each = $48
3 x D @  $18 each = $54
1 x E @  $10 each = $10
TOTAL COST =      $178
